One of our favorite ways to introduce you to our Rocket City Doulas team is for us to interview each of them and post it here in blog format! Today, we chat with Danna, one of our labor doulas. Come learn more about our RCD doula below!
What are your certifications and training?
Pro Doula, Labor Doula and Purdue University, Youth Adult and Family Sciences
Why did you become a doula?
I became a doula to help woman have the best possible outcome of their pregnancy and birth. When I was in college I helped a Midwife deliver my niece and it was a magical moment for me. I have always been fascinated on how much women change during pregnancy and when I had my first child I felt pretty lonely. My husband was excellent support, but he really didn’t have the knowledge of childbirth to back him up. My degree was mostly knowledge of family dynamics and after the child is born. After we settled down from moving all over the U.S. (my husband is a veteran), I knew I wanted to pursue my dream of helping woman feel confident in themselves during pregnancy and birth. I got certified and feel very honored to be a part of these families lives as they allow me to help them go through such a beautiful moment.
Why did you want to join Rocket City Doulas?
I joined Rocket City Doulas because they align with my core values of helping women in a non judgmental way. I love the support I get from the other doulas in our group and my partner is top notch. I feel like it doesn’t get better then Rocket City Doulas.
What’s your favorite thing about working with RCD?
I love how supportive and educational RCD is. If I ever have a question, I can easily look it up for a client or text another doula. The team makes the RCD one of a kind.
What is your favorite thing about being a doula?
My favorite thing is getting to know our clients. I get so much joy seeing how excited they are to bring a baby into this world.
Without revealing client information, what was your most memorable event/conversation/situation where you thought “This is what makes it all worth it?”
The relief a woman gets when they feel heard is what makes being a Doula worth it.
What’s the hardest thing about being a doula?
I think the hardest part is waiting for the baby, baby comes when baby comes…. but it’s so exciting.
What’s your favorite random doula fact?
I love that Doulas are there for the whole experience. We are there to answer all the questions and help you through every step of the way.
When you’re not with clients, what are you doing?
I’m with my family or hanging out with friends.
What are your favorite things to do for fun, and why?
I love camping, reading and crafting. I spend a lot of time with my family and love hanging out side with them.
What’s your favorite dad joke?
Where do cows go on Friday nights? To the moo-vies.
What else should we know about you?
Fun facts about me:
- I’ve lived in 8 different states, but call Alabama my home now.
- I met my husband at a Purdue football game and he’s my best friend.
- We have two children together: Max (12) and Audrey (8).
- I breastfed both of my children until they were two.
- Being a mother is one of my most proud accomplishments.
- I’m an Artist on the side for Cricut and love putting my creativity out into the world.
- I love to read all the things. Reading is knowledge.
