We are continuing one of our series interviewing our favorite people in the Rocket City- doulas and preferred providers! (Our series is titled “Rocket City Doulas’ Favorite People”.)
Today, we have Sarah Cummins from Waterfall Yoga Therapy.
Hi! Introduce yourself to our readers!
Waterfall Yoga Therapy offers a sabbatical from routine, care-giving, and responsibility to be nurtured, re-identify with who you are, and emerge empowered with new skillsets for stress and pain management to sustain a life of wellness.
Why did you start/open/join your business?
I started my business in January of 2014 but have moved my business every 2 years since then as a military spouse. I am glad to call Huntsville my forever home!
What makes your business different?
I provide yoga based pain management programs for both individuals and partners to help them create a more mindful and healthier lifestyle. I have both an office in Huntsville and a studio in New Market as well as tele-health options. My studio space in New Market is nestled on 20 acres in the Hurricane Valley and offers customized wellness retreats, workshops, group yoga therapy classes, and the opportunity to escape from the city for a little rest and relaxation. Each session in New Market allows you the opportunity for nature to help you heal while exploring the natural waterfall and forest or taking a meditative walk through the labyrinth. Check out our space here.
What’s your favorite thing about working with RCD?
Doulas are helpers. Like yoga therapists they provide guidance and support to members of our community. I love connecting with other healers that have a holistic mindset and that truly care about helping our clients experience their best life. I am true believer that it takes a village!
What was your most memorable event/conversation/situation where you thought “This is what makes it all worth it?”
One of my very first clients had been in a plane crash. He had been told he would never walk again. With the help of some of the top physical therapists in the nation and his incredibly positive attitude he did walk again, but had significant nerve damage to his feet making it challenging to walk and balance. He asked me to help him fully recover. New in my training, I wasn’t sure how I could help when so many yoga postures were contraindicated for his severe injuries. But with patience and perseverance we worked on his balance and strength in the swimming pool, we worked with functional movement in his home like getting into his bathtub, and we worked on visualization and breathing techniques. Over time, he got back to doing all the things he loved to do; farming, fishing, hunting, and playing with his grandchildren. He was a huge inspiration in my studies to become a yoga therapist and to help people with various complicated injuries, inflammatory diseases, and chronic illness. He taught me that your mindset is half the battle. He and I became inspirations to each other and that will always be an incredible blessing!
What’s the hardest thing about your job?
I love my job! Yoga therapy is about empowering individuals to make lifestyle changes and implement skillsets to improve life and overall health. And these changes take consistency and persistence. I can be their accountability partner and guide them through the process but I can’t do the work for them, they have to be ready to make sustainable change.
What’s your favorite random fact related to your business?
Yoga is the most commonly used complementary health approach in the US.
When you’re not with clients, what are you doing?

Also having 1:1’s with HSV community leaders in their industry, writing articles, planning events, making social media posts, and studying about different things in the field of pain management!
What are your favorite things to do for fun, and why?
Reading and spending time in nature recharge me and make me to feel at peace. Spending time with friends, laughing and exploring new places makes me feel alive and blessed!
What’s your favorite dad joke?
