If we’ve learned nothing else during our time on earth, we surely learned that times change. We don’t just throw our 2-year-olds in the back seat without a car seat. We learned it is safer to keep our children rear-facing as long as possible (this recommendation has changed even in the last few years!) We don’t give peanut butter until age 2. No wait, we now we can give peanut butter before 1 (for low-risk infants, always seek the advice of your medical provider).
People are constantly inventing and creating new products and solutions to problems the previous generation faced. Making larger car seats that are designed for rear-facing, new swaddles to reduce SIDS, a wide array of pacifier choices, etc. It’s hard to keep up, or even know where to go to find the best items!
We at RCD have compiled a list of our favorite baby items that are easily purchased from the comfort of your own home, or office, or elliptical (anyone else get things “done” sometimes when they work out on stationary equipment?) from Amazon. Some items are new crowd favorites, and some are long-standing favorites proving their worth through consistency over the years.
Now to the list! We’ve broken it down into a few categories: Sleep, Hygiene, Essentials, Feeding, and Pregnancy. Today we’re going to check out the Sleep list!
SLEEP
Swaddles:
- Ok, we admit it, we’re going to list the “time favorite” in this category first, as the following favorites are technically “swaddle transitions”. The Miracle Blanket may take some learning, but for babies who enjoy a tight swaddle through the upper body, this blanket has just the right amount of Baby Houdini protection. (We also like that it keeps the swaddle loose through the hips.)
- Zipadee Zip was the crowd favorites in our polls. It was featured on Shark Tank, keeps babies safely warm and is safe for babies to roll.
- Love to Dream Swaddle comes in next. Babies can touch their faces in this swaddle but still calms the startle reflex. It’s easy, safe, and allows for free hip and leg mobility. This swaddle also allows for the middle-of-the-night diaper changes by zipping up from the bottom!
- SwaddleMe Pods are another great transitional swaddle, with a little bit less flair. They’re super easy to use in the early days, and they offer newborn sizes.
Pacifiers:
- WubbaNum Pacifiers help keep pacifiers in the baby’s mouth. Enough said.
- MAM Newborn Pacifiers are a personal favorite. In our experience, these pacifiers are perfect for babies who are particular about the types of pacifiers they take, or babies who are prone to gagging on other pacifiers. Do yourself a favor, and find some that glow in the dark. It may be gimmicky, but its a gimmick that works.
Travel:
- The Graco Travel Lite Crib was overwhelmingly a favorite here. Converts as your baby grows.
- Lotus Travel Crib has the perks of packing into a backpack, making it easy to cart around, plus it only weighs 13lbs! It has a side zipper to make transfers a little easier.
