If you do a quick google search for “birth playlists” there will be no shortage of results. There are thousands of pre-made labor playlists. But, what is the best one?
Before we jump into the best playlist, let’s explore why you’d want to listen to music during your labor in the first place.
According to numerous studies, there are three major benefits to listening to music during labor.
- Listening to music can help reduce the intensity of pain during early labor.
- Listening to music during labor can help reduce anxiety.
- Listening to music creates a sense of relaxation and peace.
Sounds pretty amazing, right?
What’s super cool is the music that brings the most benefit during labor is whatever YOU find enjoyable and peaceful.
Yes, truly.
Not only do playlists during labor have those benefits, but there’s also a significant tie between sounds/music and memory.
I’ve had the privilege of attending births where client playlists bring back memories FOR ME. If I hear “time after time”, it brings me right back to the labor room, watching my niece come into the world. If I hear a specific Jack Hannah song, it reminds me of another family I spent time supporting almost a decade ago. (As always, birth isn’t about ME. Both of those mothers have expressed they, too, have similar ties to the music from their labor playlists.)
So, throw some salt-n-pepper “push it” on your playlist, or whatever makes you happy, and get ready to have an amazing labor and birth!
