We’ve returned to our series on introducing our doula team in big format. This week, we feature Heather! Meet the Doula- Heather
What is your name?
Heather Gilliam
What is your email?
What are your certifications and training?
CPR/First Aid and Labor Doula Certification
Why did you become a doula?
Having my own doula during labor created a birth experience where I felt supported and empowered, and I want to provide that for other women.
Why did you want to join Rocket City Doulas?
Tracy’s welcoming spirit and the top-tier reputation she and her doulas have created for RCD.
What’s your favorite thing about working with RCD?
The fact that our team is non-judgmental, supportive, and enthusiastic
What is your favorite thing about being a doula?
That my passion for supporting women in labor aligns with my gifts and calling.
Without revealing client information, what was your most memorable event/conversation/situation where you thought “This is what makes it all worth it?”
The very first time I watched a baby be born other than my own. It is a different and beautiful experience on the other side!
What’s the hardest thing about being a doula?
The anticipation!
What’s your favorite random doula fact?
Oxytocin is key in the labor journey. Staying calm and connected to your birth partners and tuning into yourself can work wonders on birthing your baby into this world.
When you’re not with clients, what are you doing?
Spending time with my 4 kiddos, drinking coffee, and teaching British Lit
What are your favorite things to do for fun, and why?
Traveling to places I’ve never been is my most favorite thing. I love seeing the world and experiencing different cultures and FOOOOOD.
What’s your favorite dad joke?
What do you call a fish in a bowtie? Sofishticated
What else should we know about you?
I know sign language. I breastfed and cloth diapered my babies, but I firmly believe that whatever a parent chooses to do in these areas is best for their family! And some of my favorite things are tattoos, playing ukulele, baking, and self-care.
