While in NYC last week, my daughter did something big and scary, (for her.)
This girl here, the one looking through the clear floor to 92 stories down below, is super afraid of heights.
We didn’t force her to walk onto this portion of the building. We reiterated that she can do whatever she was comfortable doing: Sitting against the wall next to the elevator, or coming up to the ledge, or walking onto that clear floor.
Do you know what she said to me? “Momma, it isn’t comfortable. I’m scared. But, I still really want to do it.”
I don’t know if it’s because she knew how special it was, or if she didn’t want to miss out, or because she knew that we supported her no matter what. But, it was pretty cool to see her bravery as her momma.
It reminds me of that phrase “do it scared”. Bravery isn’t doing something without fear. It’s doing something that scares you but doing it anyway.
Tell me in the comments what is something you have done that is scary, but you did it anyway? (It doesn’t have to be birth-related. We just want to celebrate your bravery!)
