Another question we get frequently at Rocket City Doulas is “is it too late to hire a doula?” Maybe you’re 38 weeks and just found out what a doula does and that sounds amazing to you. Maybe you’re 41 weeks and your plans have changed and you need more support than you thought you would earlier in your pregnancy. You might think you’re too close to giving birth to hire a doula.
Before we made the switch to the agency model, the answer could have been “yes, it is too late.” Solo doulas have a limit of how many clients they can take on at a time. Solo doulas are trying their very best not to have overlapping clients or have too many births in one week, leaving them exhausted. That means their calendars fill up quickly and early! (I know mine did! I was often completely booked 6 months in advance!)
The agency model allows us to not only share call, but to recover well from births so we can go into the next birth rested and ready! That means we can provide every client with great support, even if they are late in their pregnancy with they hire us!
